The Pit

There is a place referred to in the scriptures as, "under the earth".  Souls are either "in Heaven, on earth (still living in the body), or under the earth" (Read Philippians 2: 10-11; Revelation 5:3; Revelation 5:13).  The pit deep within the earth is where unsaved souls are held while waiting for their appearance before the Judge, Jesus Christ. Read 2 Corinthians 5:10 and 2 Peter 2:4-10

The Pit (or for demons and Satan, the Abyss) is spoken about in the following scripture verses:

Numbers 16: 1-34 (when the Lord sent some down alive)
Psalm 28:1
Psalm 30:8-9
Psalm 88:4
Psalm 143:7
Isaiah 38:17-18
Ezekiel 26:19-21
Ezekiel 31:16
Ezekiel 32:17-32
Luke 8:26-32
Revelation 9:1-2
Revelation 11:7
Revelation 17:8
Revelation 20:1-3
Revelation 20:11-15 (Judgement Day)

Other names for the pit are:
1) the grave or Sheol (in Hebrew)
2) prison - 1 Peter 3:18-19
3) death and Hades - Revelation 1:18 (Jesus holds the keys to death and Hades), and Revelation 20:11-15

Jesus Went Down Under Before He Went Up
After the death of His body on the cross, the Spirit of Jesus did not go immediately into Heaven. His Spirit descended instead, and for three days. 1 Peter 3: 18-20 reads:

"For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.

He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit through Whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison

who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built..."  (Also read 1 Peter 4:6)

And, Ephesians 4:8-10 reads:

"When He ascended up on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
(Now that He ascended, what is it but that He also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that He might fill all things."

***A Warning to Those Living in the Flesh:
Do not turn to mediums or spiritists to communicate with the dead! Don't even try it.
There will be dire consequences. Read Leviticus 19:31, Leviticus 20:6, 1 Samuel 28:8-17 (King Saul consulted a witch).  Also read 1 Chronicles 10:13), 2 Kings 21:6, 2 Chronicles 33:6,
Isaiah 8:19

Deep In the Mire

Deep in the mire
in darkness and chains
wishing to start my life
over again.

On faces around me,
the tears freely flow.
We're deep in the mire
with no where to go.

The devil is here.
He's just over there.
I trusted Ole Satan
and entered his lair.

I went down to the pit
deceived by that liar,
forever consumed
in eternal fire.

I'm deep in the mire
in darkness and chains,
wishing I'd trusted
in Jesus' name.
